Queen Bee
March 2025 / VENICE ITALY
The Queen Bee by artist Donna Carmela Santoro begins as a
Totem, a chimera, where archetypal divinities and symbols intertwine, ancient sacred knowledge for a new generation.
She is essential to our ecosystem and our lives, acting as a sentinel when something truly amiss throughout our environment. And what she highlights in particular are our fears of being and acting freely in order to recreate a sense of community.
Made from recycled fabrics, yarns, memories, sacred objects, and symbols, it is then transformed into a Costume to be inhabited and acted upon.
Woven like a tale, a propitiatory rite, a blessing for the process of transvaluing our values, a journey through the subtle threads of existence and death, to the backdrop of nature, where there is no rivalry but balance, conviviality between various cultures. Her creations are evocative talismans, she creates chimeras, she works magic!
